Privacy Policy

The short version

GuideLayer is a Mac app built to keep your screen context, credentials, and conversation history on your machine. Ability Map evidence stays on your Mac. Inference uses the AI provider routes you connect; we do not keep a standing copy of everything you see or say.

This page covers the app, guidelayer.app, and what happens when you buy a Full license.

What stays on your Mac

In the app, the following stay on your device unless you explicitly export or share them:

• AI provider credentials for your own routes, stored in the macOS Keychain, device-only
• Conversation history, encrypted local store on your Mac
• Saved tutorials and checklists, stored locally
• Screenshot vault, off by default; when enabled, images stay in an encrypted vault you control
• Privacy Center settings and routing preferences

GuideLayer reads your screen when you ask it to, not on a background recording loop. Screen context is used to answer your question and point at the right control. We designed it so you can see which model and route are active, and adjust capture in Privacy Center.

What happens to screen data depends on which AI route you use. Your provider routes send only the context needed for that request under that provider's terms.

AI providers

By default, GuideLayer can route through AI services you connect, for example a Codex sign-in you already have, or a Claude API key you add in Connections. Privacy Center shows which route is active. GuideLayer does not use Claude Free/Pro/Max subscription logins for third-party routing.

We don't train GuideLayer on your screen captures or conversations.

Downloads on guidelayer.app

You can start the Mac installer without entering an email. For that path we may store a hashed network fingerprint, user agent, and first-touch campaign fields (UTMs) for abuse control and attribution — not your name or inbox.

If you choose the optional email backup, we collect your email address to send a one-time installer link and keep a record of the request. Download delivery email is sent through Resend from a GuideLayer address.

If you opt in, we also use that email for setup tips, product updates, and occasional GuideLayer offers. You can unsubscribe anytime. You can download without email, or skip the checkbox and still get a backup download link.

This is website fulfillment. License activation and verification on this site are separate from how the Mac app routes inference.

We don't sell your email.

Purchases on guidelayer.app

If you buy a Full license on this site, payment is processed by Stripe. We receive your email and payment confirmation so we can deliver your license key. License delivery email is sent through Resend from a GuideLayer address.

We don't sell your email. We use it for fulfillment and support related to your purchase.

Contact form on guidelayer.app

When you use /contact, we collect the details you submit (email, message, and any bug or product fields you fill in) so we can respond and improve GuideLayer. Optional screenshots are sent to our team by email for triage. We store the written submission and attachment metadata in our database, not the screenshot image files.

We don't sell contact form submissions. Don't upload passwords, API keys, or sensitive customer data in screenshots.

This website

guidelayer.app is a marketing site hosted on Cloudflare. Aggregate traffic measurement uses Google Analytics when enabled (measurement ID from the deployment environment). We do not use ad tracking pixels beyond that.

Standard server logs (IP, browser, pages visited) may be retained by our host for security and debugging, typically for a short period.

Children

GuideLayer is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

We may update this policy as the product or site changes. The date at the top reflects the latest revision. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
